INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT

MICHELLE GOLD

Our instructor spotlight shines on the beaming Michelle Gold, our newest instructor who just brought an exciting, high-vibe class to Studio ‘533! If you haven’t already met Michelle, her positive energy is contagious and her POUND class is a must try!

Though she was born in Brooklyn, NY, Michelle feels that she missed out on the city experience because her family moved away while she was still a baby. Michelle now lives in Bordentown and has worked in Trenton in the judiciary system for the last 19 years. While she enjoys her career and it keeps her busy, Michelle’s true passion is in fitness.

Like many people, Michelle had attended various gyms over the years. It wasn’t until she moved to Bordentown and joined Team 85 that she found where her heart belonged. A friend of hers was teaching POUND and she took the class and immediately fell in love. “One of the best parts is that you don’t feel like you are working out,” Michelle explained “until the next day of course.” Michelle found something that was seriously fun and that kept her wanting to come back for more.

It was around this same time that Michelle decided to include nutrition into her focus. Combining the physical fitness with eating better led to the total package and Michelle was able to shed 65 pounds! “You can’t just do one without the other,” Michelle emphasized.

Recently, Michelle’s friend and the owner of Top Notch Design in New Egypt told her about Studio ‘533. This friend thought that between the rocker owners and the musical vibe, that Michelle belonged as a part of this community. From there, Michelle emailed and introduced herself to Barbara and the rest is history! “Especially in the fitness industry, if you are passionate about something you want to share it and bring it wherever you can — you have got to be bold,” Michelle expressed. In the background, her beloved cat Ollie purrs his agreement.

You can now find Michelle’s POUND class on the studio schedule on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-5:45! Prepare to “channel your inner rockstar with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the infectious, energizing, and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums.” Everyone leaves the class sweaty and smiling.

Michelle always emphasizes that there are no wrong moves in POUND — “only drum solos,” she says. “If you feel fear around attending a class like this, give yourself a shot and you will realize you can do it as long as you keep moving and have fun with it,” Michelle encourages. She adds in a helpful reminder it is a universal fear that everyone will be looking at you if you mess up, but the truth is that everyone is focused on themselves.

To continue, Michelle has expanded her comfort zone by adding Aqua Fit to her fitness offerings and she also hopes to soon become certified in Pilates. In addition to her devotion to health and wellness, Michelle’s other top hobby is scrapbooking. She relishes in now having a balance between a sedentary and relaxing pastime and an active and invigorating one.

Studio ‘533 is an even greater fit because Michelle is also a huge music fan. Her taste spans all of the genres and she describes it as being a little bit all over the place. She grew up listening to 50s Doo Wop and still attends tribute bands with her family and sings along to all of the words. Michelle also loves the music from the 70s and 80s. One of her all time favorite artists is P!NK who she gets to see in concert again this month. Michelle is a true music lover and likes to try it all!

To anyone who is curious about starting a fitness journey, Michelle’s advice is to find something that you truly enjoy. She emphasizes how important it is to find your personal niche — not being afraid to try everything because you never know what might grab you enough to want to keep coming back. “This is the best thing you can do for yourself physically and mentally,” Michelle encourages. Welcome to Studio ‘533, Michelle! We already love having you as part of the community.

BOOK-HEMIAN RHAPSODY

Up Next: The Patina of Dorothy Grant

By, Rob Weldon

MEETUP DATE: Tuesday, October 29th.

We will be live streaming with the Author!

Dorothy Grant is a social media vampire who can drink, do drugs, and party in the most epic fashion.
She's certainly never heard of the classic character of literature,

Dorian Gray.
Dorothy's PikPoket and Permagram accounts have developed a mind of their own, providing her with the supernatural ability to achieve the highest level of hedonism.
Conversely, it's also showing her images as progressively eviler, uglier, and absorbing all the sins of her behavior.
But as long as she still gets all the attention,

everything will work out, right?

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

KAREN TADDEI

This season’s member spotlight shines on the lovely Karen Taddei. Originally from Bucks County, PA, Karen has lived around the corner in Wrightstown, NJ for the past 29 years. Karen and her husband raised their 3 children and are now adoring every bit of the grandparent phase of life with their darling grandbabies.

After climbing the corporate ladder for the better part of 30 years, Karen is now happily retired. As she got older and the years of full-time work piled on, she found herself accelerating her retirement plan. Once the time came, she felt mixed emotions during the shift — admitting that there was a sense of struggle to form an identity apart from the intensity and purpose that came with a Senior Executive role.

Enter : Studio ‘533 which Karen referred to as a “God send” during this transitional time in her life. While she does not regret her decision to retire, she felt supported through the community atmosphere and everyone wanting good things for others. She realized it was perfectly acceptable to focus on herself and getting stronger. The second floor of 27 Main Street was a welcome and helpful landing pad as she shifted the focus from her successful career to the newness of retired life.

Over the last 6-7 months of building habits, Karen’s family has even taken notice, realizing how consistent she is by making it to classes 5 days a week. She noted that it means a lot to her now, and it helps her mind, body and soul. She focuses on her wins, and stressed the importance of not beating yourself up if you miss — but to find a later class or fit it in another time. She has had some scares in her life that led her to realize that life is too short, and that this is not a dress rehearsal. It is obvious that Karen embodies and lives this truth through her focus on building a healthy lifestyle at the center of it all.

Karen’s favorite class is Barbara’s Tone Up because lifting weights is a great way to stay healthy and youthful. After a shoulder injury, attending physical therapy and getting stronger have helped. To add to the benefits, Karen has also lost 20 pounds and feels stronger than ever. Recently, she nearly fell but grabbed to hold on and could feel her strength in that moment. That was a glorious non-scale victory credited to her commitment to being the best version of herself.

Besides her passion for fitness at the studio, Karen also loves to get outside and get moving. On a weekend, you would likely find Karen and her husband with the bikes strapped to the back of the Jeep to go explore the trails. When they have time, they enjoy getting up to Lake George or Lake Placid  but do have favorites close by as well.  A few of the local favorites include Mansfield Park in Columbus, the Union Transportation Trail or biking to the Barnegat Lighthouse. As long as she is around nature, Karen will consider it a weekend well-spent (and a well-earned cocktail never hurt after a long ride, either).

Another interest very close to Karen’s heart is volunteering with Soles for Souls. This is a non-profit organization that goes into communities with donated shoes for children who need them. Karen actually got to participate in a mission trip to Central America where she washed and sized the feet of children to give them their new shoes. It was an eye-opening and humbling experience and one that she will never forget. It was striking that some children only had cardboard with rubber bands around their feet while other children’s feet were deformed from squeezing into shoes that were much too small. Even through the language barrier, the love and appreciation was strong and impactful and Karen regards this as the most rewarding trip of her life. If you feel inspired to give back, be on the lookout for a collection box at Studio ‘533 this fall.

When asked what advice she would give to someone wanting to start on a health journey, a quote came to Karen’s mind that she heard recently: “If not you, who? If not now, when?” She encourages people to get out of their comfort zone and give it a chance —or even a few chances. “There is no time like the present and you owe it to yourself,” Karen continued. She realized that not long ago she was in that same position, but remarked at the beauty of beginning and realizing how far she has already come. We are all excited to see you

continue to make yourself proud, Karen!
